From building robots to sewing aprons, more than 100 students from across central Maine proudly showed off a range of student-led projects and programs at the latest Kennebec Valley Superintendents' Association Showcase on March 27th in Augusta.
The annual event, held at Augusta's Cony High School, is a celebration of the incredible programming within Maine's public school classrooms. A dozen school districts showed off their innovative programming and the ways that they were expanding opportunities for children across the region. Examples include:
· Richmond Public Schools' "Forest Friday" Program, where students' exploration of their natural surroundings is integrated into every part of the curriculum (including sending pen pals to local wildlife officials!)
· The Interact Club at Gardiner Area High School (MSAD 11), which holds food drives and operates an in-school food pantry, helping to provide food to dozens of students and families
· The Media Arts Program at Messalonskee High School (RSU 18), where students create daily news episodes every day covering announcement, news, sports, and more.
· At MSAD 54 (Skowhegan), the REACH Afterschool Program combines academics with classes from robotics to cooking and sewing, helping students to stay engaged and reach their educational goals.
We are so proud of the work happening in all of Maine's public schools, and we would love to hear about the exciting programming happening in your school!
